€ Editor¹s Note € Will Eisner¹s Personal Appearances € Will Eisner in the News € Will Eisner Links EDITOR¹S NOTE It isn¹t easy keeping up with Will Eisner. When I checked in last week, he had just mailed off corrections on The Plot to the publisher and couldn¹t talk because a Dutch National Public Television (VPRO-TV) video crew from Holland doing a documentary on graphic novels was in the studio waiting for him! So in the interests of time (his), I asked him to email me an update of what he¹s up to this month. Here¹s what¹s new, direct from him to you: ³BOB: The Washington thing (DETAILS BELOW) is an event built around Jules Feiffer's play,"THE BAD FRIEND" being performed in D.C. After the performance there will be a "Feiffer and Friends" panel chosen by Feiffer: Daniel Schorr, Tom Toles, Will Eisner. I agreed to attend because Jules is an old and valued friend (as well as a former underpaid employee). I am scheduled to speak at a Jewish Book Fair in Atlanta where I'll speak about FAGIN THE JEW ... the exact date is November 13. As for THE PLOT, Norton now has the artwork and is at work getting it printed etc. They tell me that they had a very positive response to it in Frankfort's book fair this year. The anatomy book is in dummy stage and I'm still stirring the pot so I hesitate to be more detailed. I can say that the reason for my doing this is that none of the classic artist anatomy books that I know of cover the specific practice of narrative art. "My purpose has always been to overthrow the government," he says, sipping tea at the D.C. Jewish Community Center, where "Julz Rulz: Inside the Mind of Jules Feiffer," a retrospective of his drawings, political and otherwise, is on view. But is he joking? "I also tipped my hat to Mr. Eisner's work in Iron Giant. The kid pulls out stuff that the giant would enjoy seeing, and he pulls out a copy of the Spirit. I thought that not a lot of people know about this and it is a great thing. "I think Will Eisner is a genius.² Read the rest of the story: http://washingtontimes.com/arts/20041022-090900-7146r.htm If you¹d like to subscribe to Will Eisner: A Spirited Life eNewsletter, send an e-mail to subscribe@aspiritedlife.com |
