WILL EISNER BOOK UPDATE!
The latest news from the studio is that Will Eisnerıs next graphic novel, The Plot, is complete and being edited at W.W. Norton.

Even better news is that Eisner is now working on an as-yet untitled new classroom textbook on what he calls ³narrative and emotional anatomy.² It will be his third such book; the first two, Comics & Sequential Art and Graphic Storytelling & Visual Narrative, are considered classics and are being re-released this summer with new cover graphics.

And what about Bob Andelmanıs authorized biography, Will Eisner: A Spirited Life? The manuscript is just days away from being sent to the editors at Dark Horse. Thanks for asking!

WILL EISNERıS JOHN LAW DELAYED
Silver Bullet Comics
http://www.silverbulletcomicbooks.com/news/10874210855386.htm
IDW Publishing has announced that its release Will Eisnerıs John Law: Dead Man Walking trade paperback, originally scheduled for June, has been unavoidably delayed due to a medical emergency on the part of writer/artist Gary Chaloner.

Chaloner speaks openly of the reasons behind the book's delay. ³Simply put, I had a total mental and nervous breakdown. I was operating on a few hours sleep a night, I wasnıt eating...and the stress was starting to take its toll. I was a real mess. I can see that...now.

³The dangerous thing about clinical depression and anxiety is that you donıt know you're suffering until itıs all too late,² Chaloner explains. "Youıre in a haze of growing mental fog and creeping panic. Then you start making bad judgment calls and decisions. You really do kid yourself and itıs only when itıs too late do you get the wake-up call. I ended up in the hospital, completely incapacitated. I'm not sure how prevalent depression is in this business, but Iıd guess thereıs a hell of a lot of it going around based on the high turnover of talent in the industry. Having been through it myself...this is a real concern to me.

³I've been very lucky to have the support of my family, as well as Will Eisner and Denis Kitchen, who have been amazingly patient, understanding and have gone the extra mile on my behalf to help me through this. Iıd particularly like to extend sincere thanks to my industry colleagues who have sent their support and well-wishes. I am also indebted to the folks at IDW, whoıve stuck by this project.

³I'll be moving forward from here with a new clarity of my own limitations and an even greater desire to see Will Eisnerıs John Law succeed.²

Will Eisner adds, ³I applaud Gary Chaloner. He is a man of courage and determination to prevail over an awful illness. Iım confident that he will complete what he has so brilliantly started and that readers will be rewarded for their patience and support.²

Will Eisnerıs John Law: Dead Man Walking will be resolicited when it is complete. The new version will be an 80-page black and white trade paperback with a cover price of $12.99.

HOLY Warrior Nuns, Batman!
Sojourners Magazine
By David Wade

Before Neil Gaiman became a New York Times best-selling author, he wrote a comic book series called The Sandman . In the course of its 75 issues, which he began in the late 1980s, Gaiman explored issues of depth psychology, the relevance of ancient mythology, the sources of Shakespeare's inspiration, the subtleties of Oriental calligraphy, and the relationship between dreams and death. At its heart, The Sandman series explored the diminishment of faith in the modern world and the need for a reconnection with enchantment in our everyday lives.

The graphic alternative
Chicago Sun Times
By Carlo Wolff

Graphic novels are finally coming into their own. Even though Will Eisner's A Contract with God, published in 1978, was the first to be called a graphic novel, these distinctive, varied works have not until recently reached a mass audience. It wasn't until 1992, when comics artist Art Spiegelman won a Pulitzer Prize for Maus, his book on the Holocaust, that the graphic novel even came into focus. ( In The Shadow of No Towers, Spiegelman's first new book of comics since Maus, comes from Pantheon in September.)
